DoorDash Interview Questions & Process

Backend Engineer, Full-Stack Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, and Machine Learning Engineer

Updated July 2026

DoorDash hires software engineers across its marketplace, logistics and dispatch, payments, ads, and platform infrastructure, and its loop is built around one theme: designing and scaling a real-time, three-sided marketplace of consumers, Dashers, and merchants. System design here means concrete DoorDash problems — the order-placement backend or the dispatch engine — graded on scoping and load estimation more than a perfect diagram.

The process runs four to five rounds over three to six weeks: a recruiter call, a HackerRank technical screen (two medium-to-hard DSA problems), then a virtual onsite of three to four loops covering coding, system design, a domain/project deep-dive, and behavioural. In 2026 DoorDash is shifting some loops toward an AI-assisted working session where you build real features with AI coding tools, plus a practical CodeCraft round and a separate debugging round.

The cost of walking in unprepared

DoorDash's process runs 6 stages. Most candidates only find out they weren't ready once the result lands.

DoorDash interview FAQs

Does DoorDash use HireVue?

DoorDash's technical screens run on HackerRank with live onsite rounds; its official process doesn't describe a universal recorded-video HireVue stage, and in 2026 it's adding AI-assisted working sessions instead.

How many rounds are there?

Four to five — a recruiter call, a HackerRank screen, and a three-to-four-loop onsite (coding, system design, deep-dive, behavioural).

How hard is it?

Hard: two medium-to-hard screen problems, and system design that expects real marketplace scoping and load estimation, not a generic diagram.

How long does it take?

Commonly three to six weeks, depending on scheduling.
