University of Nottingham medicine interview: six scenarios in up to an hour
Six scenarios, at least one of them role play, up to an hour. Nottingham publishes its interview dates and says offers are based solely on how you perform in the room.
Updated September 2026The University of Nottingham publishes its selection process in full. Invitations are decided on a GCSE score (your best eight, with points for each grade) and a UCAT score in which the cognitive sections are scored with verbal reasoning doubled and the SJT band adds points (band 1 = 10, band 2 = 6, band 3 = 2; band 4 is not considered). There is no fixed threshold and A level predictions are not used. For 2027 entry home applicants are likely to interview in person and international applicants online via Microsoft Teams. A100 interviews run from 15 December 2026 to 29 January 2027, and foundation-year (A108) interviews from 6 to 29 January. The interview consists of six scenarios, including at least one role play, and takes up to an hour. It assesses the personal qualities important for practising medicine: good communication and listening, understanding of professional issues such as teamwork, and respect for patients and for the contribution of allied professions, drawing on the Medical Schools Council's core values guidance. Offers are based solely on interview performance.

Interview questions
Nottingham publishes its scenario count and the qualities assessed but not the scenarios. The practice questions below are Merra's, written to those qualities; they are not Nottingham's own.
“I'm going to tell you about my week. Then tell me the one thing you think I most needed you to hear.”
“Explain to a patient why their operation was postponed because of an emergency, without making them feel unimportant.”
“A patient in a waiting room tells you they're about to leave because they've been waiting too long. What do you say to them, word for word?”
