University of Glasgow medicine interview: a 30-minute panel, not an MMI
Thirty minutes online with two interviewers who know only your name. Panel A is motivation and teamwork; Panel B is communication plus an ethical scenario you pick from two.
Updated September 2026The University of Glasgow is one of the few UK medical schools that still runs a panel interview rather than an MMI. For 2027 entry it is online, from late November 2026 to March 2027, and lasts 30 minutes in two sections with the same two interviewers throughout. Panel A covers your motivation to become a doctor, teamwork and related qualities; Panel B covers communication and a discussion of an ethical scenario, where you read two brief scenarios of two or three sentences and choose one. Glasgow describes the interview as conversational, with no writing, and says the decision is based solely on interview performance with no score adjustments. It also publishes a short prep list: know the MBChB curriculum, revisit your personal statement because the interviewers know only your name, have examples of achievements and skills ready, reflect on your experiences, and be aware of current NHS issues.

- 1Invitations are by email only, on a rolling basis from late November to March, with at least ten days' notice (seven for the last week of November). Rescheduling is only allowed for a clashing medicine interview, an exam, illness or technical problems.
- 2The interview is online and lasts 30 minutes. Two interviewers conduct both sections; they know only your name, not your application.
- 3Panel A: your motivation to become a doctor, teamwork and related qualities.
- 4Panel B: communication, then an ethical scenario. You read two brief scenarios (two or three sentences each) and choose one to discuss. Glasgow calls it conversational and there is no writing.
- 5Confidentiality: do not discuss the questions afterwards, no AI, devices or notes, no recording. Glasgow treats a breach as a fitness-to-practise issue. You must be fit to sit; repeat interviews are only granted for serious issues.
- 6Decisions are based solely on interview performance, with outcomes on UCAS by 31 March (possibly extended to the end of April). Feedback is general only, from April. Some unsuccessful A100 applicants may be offered a change of course to the Gateway (A900) programme.
Interview questions
Glasgow publishes its two panel themes but not its questions or scenarios. The practice questions below are Merra's, written to Panel A and Panel B as Glasgow describes them; they are not Glasgow's own.
“Your interviewers know only your name. So start from nothing: why do you want to be a doctor?”
“What do you know about how the Glasgow MBChB is taught, and why does that suit you?”
“What's a current NHS issue you think will affect you as a junior doctor, and what do you make of it?”
“Tell me about a team you were part of that failed. What was your part in it?”
“When have you had to follow a leader you disagreed with? What did you do?”
“Explain to me, as a patient's relative, why we can't give you information over the phone.”
“Tell me about a time you had to deliver bad news to someone. How did you decide what to say?”
“A patient tells you they are going to drive home after a procedure they've been told not to drive after. What are the issues, and what would you do?”
“A 16-year-old wants a treatment their parents refuse. Who decides, and how would you handle the conversation?”
“Glasgow lets you pick one of two scenarios. Which kind would you pick and why: one about confidentiality or one about resource allocation? Talk me through the one you'd choose.”

Is the Glasgow medicine interview an MMI?
No. It is a 30-minute online panel interview in two sections with the same two interviewers: Panel A on motivation and teamwork, Panel B on communication and an ethical scenario.
Do the interviewers see my application?
