City St George's medicine interview: the recorded six-question MMI
No interviewer in the room. Six pre-recorded questions, about five minutes each, a 60-second break between them, and your answers are scored afterwards by trained interviewers.
Updated September 2026City St George's, University of London runs the most unusual medicine interview in the UK. For the five-year MBBS (A100), the interview takes place on an online platform called SAMMI-Select: Scalable Automated Multiple Mini Interviews. You are shown a series of pre-recorded questions written by the St George's community, each read aloud and displayed on screen, and you record your answer to each one; the recordings are then reviewed and scored by trained interviewers. There are six questions, each lasting around five minutes including the time for the question to be read, with a 60-second break between them, and every response is assessed separately by a different interviewer. It must be completed in one sitting and you should allow up to an hour including checks and upload. In the 2025/26 cycle St George's had 165 home and 19 overseas places, received about 1,280 home and 320 overseas applications, and interviewed 773 home and 121 overseas applicants. The graduate-entry course (A101) uses a conventional six-station MMI in person at Tooting or online.

- 1Applicants who meet the entry criteria are ranked by UCAT and invited until the interview places are filled; the cut-off is set each year (500 minimum per section) and SJT banding is considered. For the 2026-entry cycle the interview days were 3 and 9 December 2025.
- 2You receive SAMMI-Select login details 48 hours before your interview. A practice setup checks your Wi-Fi, webcam and microphone and runs an introductory video, an instructional video and a practice question, which you can repeat as often as you like.
- 3The interview: six pre-recorded questions, each around five minutes including the time for the question to be read aloud, with a 60-second break between questions. After each question plays, its text appears on screen and a timer helps you manage your answer. It must be completed in one sitting; allow up to an hour including checks and upload.
- 4Each response is reviewed and scored separately and independently by a different trained interviewer. St George's says the process assesses your suitability for medicine and the NHS, and qualities such as empathy, integrity and respect.
- 5AI tools are strictly prohibited and SAMMI-Select includes detection software; use of AI can lead to an offer being withdrawn. Upload photo ID before you start; use a laptop or desktop on Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Edge.
- 6If you applied to both A100 and A101 and qualify for both, you interview once and the score is used for both. A100 outcomes are released by the end of February; the graduate-entry MMI (six in-person or online stations of five minutes) runs in February.

St George's does not publish its recorded questions. The practice questions below are Merra's, written for a format where you answer alone to camera with no follow-up; they are not St George's own.
“You have about four minutes and no one will interrupt. Why medicine? Structure it so it ends before the timer does.”
“What do you understand about working in the NHS that you didn't a year ago?”
“Describe a time you noticed someone was struggling before they said anything. What did you do?”
“Tell me about a time you owned up to something when you could have stayed quiet.”
“What does treating a patient with respect mean when the patient is being difficult?”
“Explain to a patient why they should finish a course of antibiotics, as if speaking to them directly.”

“With no interviewer to react to, how will you know when you've said enough? Practise ending an answer cleanly: tell me about your work experience in ninety seconds.”
