Blackstone Interview Questions & Process

Private Equity Analyst · Real Estate Analyst · Credit Analyst

Updated July 2026

Blackstone is the world's largest alternative-asset manager, and it recruits extraordinarily early and competitively — its president said the 2025 analyst class had roughly a 0.2% acceptance rate (about 57,000 applications for ~138 entry-level roles) — across Private Equity, Real Estate, Credit & Insurance, Infrastructure, Tactical Opportunities, Hedge Fund Solutions and Private Wealth. Its official campus outline is simple — apply on the Blackstone site, do a first-round video interview with a team member, then a series of face-to-face meetings — but the real gate for investment roles is the paper LBO.\n\nIn practice many candidates first get a pymetrics assessment (the first true gate — 12 games testing traits, not finance) and a HireVue screen, then a Zoom round where they work through a paper LBO and technical questions, and a final with senior team members mixing technical and fit. You should be able to run a clean LBO from scratch, explain every assumption and talk sensitivities — and do the back-of-envelope version verbally in 5–10 minutes (equity check, growth, exit equity value, MOIC and IRR). Real Estate adds cap rates, NOI and underwriting; Credit adds debt judgment. Timing is early — full-time campus roles can open as early as July with interviews August–October, and US summer interviews can start in February for the following year. Students may apply to multiple groups, and no cover letter is needed for campus applications.

The cost of walking in unprepared

Blackstone's process spans 5 distinct stages, often compressed into a single high-pressure loop. Most candidates only find out they weren't ready once the result lands.

The Blackstone interview process

  1. 1Online Application. Apply on the Blackstone website for the relevant campus or professional opportunity (multiple groups allowed; no cover letter for campus).
  2. 2Pymetrics & HireVue Screen. Recruiting and the business review eligibility, academics, experience and group fit; many candidates first complete a pymetrics game-based assessment (the first gate) and a HireVue screen.
  3. 3First-Round Video Interview. A video interview with a Blackstone team member.
  4. 4Face-to-Face Meetings. A series of face-to-face meetings; investment teams commonly add a paper LBO, an accretion/dilution or accounting case, and technical questions.
  5. 5Final Round. A final round with senior team members mixes technical and fit; regional timelines vary (FT roles from ~July, US summer interviews can start in February).
