Cambridge Geography interview: the planet's biggest problems, argued out loud

Updated September 2026Cambridge Geography had 4 applications per place in the 2025 cycle and accepted 99. Written work is not usually requested, and only Hughes Hall sets an admission assessment. Cambridge describes the course as tackling the biggest challenges facing the planet in both the human and physical environment, including food security, climate and biodiversity emergencies, pandemics and globalisation. Interviews are run by the college assessing you: main period 7 to 18 December 2026, online or in person depending on the college, most applicants having one or two interviews totalling 35 minutes to an hour with two or three interviewers. Cambridge says it assesses your understanding of the subject, readiness for high-level study, critical and independent thinking, curiosity and enthusiasm. Geography interviews often move from something you have studied to an unfamiliar place, process or data set and ask you to reason geographically about it.
