EY Interview Questions & Process

Audit · Advisory · Graduate Scheme

Updated July 2026

EY works across strategy advisory, digital-transformation consulting, tax compliance, independent audit and cross-border transaction services. What separates its process from the other Big Four is the emphasis on strengths rather than competencies. Instead of asking only what you have done, EY probes what you naturally enjoy and do well, and it scores authenticity, so heavily rehearsed answers tend to read as rehearsed.

The six themes EY names are adaptability, curiosity, collaboration, learning agility, resilience and relationship building. Its strengths assessment usually sits alongside numerical and verbal reasoning, often in a gamified format, and some sections are deliberately timed to push instinctive answers while others are untimed.

Candidates who clear the assessments reach the EY Experience Day, run virtually or in person depending on the programme and office. It typically has two parts, a case study and a group exercise with discussion, followed by a one-to-one interview with a senior leader that is usually more conversational in tone than the earlier stages. In the group exercise, assessors weight collaboration and values at least as heavily as whether the team reached the best answer.

Two practical notes. Consulting maths at EY is done without a calculator, so daily mental-arithmetic practice pays off more than memorising frameworks. And many internship and junior roles recruit on a rolling basis, so applying early materially improves the odds of reaching interview before capacity fills.

The cost of walking in unprepared

EY's process spans 5 distinct stages, often compressed into a single high-pressure loop. Most candidates only find out they weren't ready once the result lands.

EY interview FAQs

Which personal strengths does EY explicitly look for?

The six core themes are adaptability, curiosity, collaboration, learning agility, resilience, and relationship building.

How should candidates practice consulting math for EY cases?

Practice frequent mental calculations without a calculator, accept a modest error range early in training, then steadily improve both precision and speed through a daily routine.

Does EY recruit on fixed deadlines or a rolling basis?

Many internship and junior-analyst roles use rolling recruitment, so earlier applications often have a better chance of reaching the interview stage before capacity fills.
